Perfect Search Internviews: Spring 2017 Part I
You know that feeling you get when Netflix adds a new season of your favorite TV show? That’s basically how we feel about our Spring 2017 Junior Analysts.
Get to know Alyssa, Austin, and Chun in Internviews: Part I.
Alyssa Rodriguez, Junior Analyst
1) Where are you from? Make up a slogan for your hometown. Why does this perfectly describe your hometown?
Palm Harbor, Florida: “Where the gators roam free but at least the beaches are nice.” Whenever people hear that I’m from Florida, I often get asked about one of two things—the weird news that comes out of FL (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, Google “Florida news headlines” and you’ll see what I mean), or the immense presence of alligators.
I agree, Florida is a strange place. But we have really pretty beaches! I miss the beach a lot, so I want people to appreciate that instead of all of Florida’s eccentricities.
2) What’s your favorite digital marketing task so far? What’s something you’re excited to learn more about in digital marketing?
I’ve enjoyed auditing different websites, as well as brainstorming together as a group what changes we can make to a website. I’m really interested in user experience, so I’ve loved learning about the ways that user experience can impact SEO.
I’m excited to learn more about the digital marketing industry and how it’s changing. So much can change just from week to week, so I’m excited to see what else might happen in the near future.
3) Pick one word that you think best sums up digital marketing? Why’d you choose this word?
Fast-paced. I think everything about digital marketing is fast-paced, both in the work that you do and in the impact you see. I’m constantly learning new things as I dive into client accounts or websites.
You really have to be up to date with your industry knowledge. Also, when you make a change or an optimization, that change can take effect pretty much immediately, and you can start seeing the impact of that change very quickly.
4) If you could provide digital marketing services for any company (PPC, SEO, and/or content!), who would it be? What’d be on your to-do list?
I don’t have a specific client in mind, but I’ve been hunting for apartments lately and there’s a lot of work that could be done for apartment buildings’ websites on both the PPC and SEO sides.
My first priority would be to help them make their sites mobile-friendly. It’s pretty much impossible to look at floor plans on an apartment mobile site, and a lot of sites I’ve been on don’t load very easily. Additionally, I’ve had to dig around the SERP to find relevant websites, so I would help some of these apartment complexes with their PPC and SEO strategies to help them show up for more relevant keywords.
5) Plan the perfect spring picnic. Who’s on the guest list? What are you packing in the picnic basket? Any fun activities planned?
Probably the whole cast of Veep, maybe Gina Rodriguez because she’s amazing, and I’d add in John Mulaney there too. We would have to have chips and dip, specifically spinach and artichoke dip, and probably tacos.
As for activities, we wouldn’t have to do anything crazy; they just all seem like cool, smart people and I’d love to get to know them.
Austin Lai, Junior Copywriter and Content Strategist
1) Where are you from? Make up a slogan for your hometown. Why does this perfectly describe your hometown?
I am from Cupertino, CA. The slogan for the Bay Area would be “Boba, fresh bread, and Apple.” Here’s why.
Boba is a way of life and has been the biggest food trend in the Bay Area since hot pot and brick toast, which brings me to the bread. Asian bread is the best kind of bread and you’ll understand if you go to 85C Bakery. They bake their bread in batches throughout the day so every ten minutes or so they’ll bring out a fresh batch of bread and announce “fresh bread!” It’s quite an exhilarating call to action.
Apple’s new “Spaceship Campus” is almost open and its HQ is in Cupertino as well – bless the Silicon Valley.
2) What’s your favorite digital marketing task so far? What’s something you’re excited to learn more about in digital marketing?
I’ve enjoyed writing client copy and analyzing internal content strategy the most. I’m always excited to learn more about the industry and I really enjoy browsing new articles that keep me up-to-date and well-educated in the field. I’m also looking forward to writing some paid ad copy and social content in the future as well.
3) Pick one word that you think best sums up digital marketing? Why’d you choose this word?
The first word that comes to mind is collaboration. The digital marketing industry is always evolving and there’s so much out there for me to learn. The team at Perfect Search Media is also incredibly up-to-date and knowledgeable about everything so I’m thankful for being able to talk to my team and ask questions because they make my time here exciting.
4) If you could provide digital marketing services for any company (PPC, SEO, and/or content!), who would it be? What’d be on your to-do list?
I’m really interested in working in the tech industry back in SF so I would look into companies like Facebook or Salesforce. With my interest in SEO and content, the first item on the to-do list would be to conduct a deep dive on the internal content and then create a team to help optimize growth!
5) Plan the perfect spring picnic. Who’s on the guest list? What are you packing in the picnic basket? Any fun activities planned?
At the moment, I’ll go with Gordon Ramsay, David Chang, and Hayao Miyazaki. I’m packing Beef Wellington, Korean Fried Chicken, and a selection of desserts from Miyazaki’s animated films. We’ll create a concept for a pop-up food truck and launch it in 48 hours (Top Chef style) and make a lot of money. Sounds fun, right? I’m excited.
Chun Zhai, Junior Analyst
1) Where are you from? Make up a slogan for your hometown. Why does this perfectly describe your hometown?
I’m from Beijing, China. A slogan for my hometown can be “Go Roast Duck!” because Peking Roast Duck is a well-known dish in China. Generally, we eat salty foods in the north part of China. But the roast duck is an exception. It is sweet and yummy!
2) What’s your favorite digital marketing task so far? What’s something you’re excited to learn more about in digital marketing?
As a Statistics major, my favorite task is creating PPC and SEO reports using tools like Google AdWords, Google Search Console, and so on. I’m excited whenever I deal with data. I hope I can learn more about SEO since it’s beyond the scope of my major. I still have a long way to go!
3) Pick one word that you think best sums up digital marketing? Why’d you choose this word?
The word would be challenging. We had training for the last five weeks, and I learned different aspects of digital marketing. Everything is new for me, so I need to remember and practice a lot on the way to becoming a qualified digital marketer. I hope I can choose a different word to sum up digital marketing in a few weeks!
4) If you could provide digital marketing services for any company (PPC, SEO, and/or content!), who would it be? What’d be on your to-do list?
I would provide both PPC and SEO for Gyu-Kaku, a Japanese BBQ restaurant. I would do keyword research, determine their bids, and optimize their official website. I’d also look into their data month-over-month to figure out the best season for them to grow their business. I hope they could get more customers and open more branches all over America with my help!
5) Plan the perfect spring picnic. Who’s on the guest list? What are you packing in the picnic basket? Any fun activities planned?
Anne Hathaway is on my list because I love her movies. I don’t usually cook so I will just bring some sandwiches and ice cream for everyone. I will also introduce my favorite board game: Avalon. Avalon is designed for 5-10 players and has many rules for a beginner to remember. But it is super fun for a spring picnic!
